During the summer, the lake, with its cool, clear water fed from underground springs is a popular venue with locals and visitors. There is excellent coarse fishing in the Moycullen area where bream, roach, hybrids, perch and pike can be caught in the small lakes there. The Fishery Board with the co-operation of the local community, farmers and Coillte provided first-class access, parking and fishing stands at the lakes.

The waters give good roach fishing over most of the year, but usually best from April to December. Roach to over 1Ib and hybrids to 3Ib are common.
